FAQs

Welcome to our matcha FAQ page.

Q1: What is matcha powder, and how is it different from regular green tea?

A: Matcha powder is a finely ground green tea powder made from whole tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, which is steeped and discarded, matcha is whisked with water, allowing you to consume the whole tea leaf, providing a more concentrated flavour and higher nutritional benefits. Our matcha is shade-grown to maximise its nutritional value and certified by Japanese and European organic authorities.

Q2: How do I prepare matcha powder?

A: To prepare matcha, start by sifting 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl. Add hot, but not boiling, water (about 80°C/175°F) and whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion until frothy. Adjust the matcha and water ratio according to your preference. Traditional or plant based milk can also be used to create other types of drinks such as matcha lattes.

Q3: What are the health benefits of matcha powder?

A: Matcha is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, such as EGCG, L-theanine, and chlorophyll. It can boost metabolism, provide a calm focus, has anti-cancer properties, help to regulate blood sugar and promote overall well-being.

Q4: Is matcha powder suitable for vegans?

A: Yes, matcha powder is vegan-friendly as it is made solely from ground tea leaves without any animal-derived ingredients.

Q5: What grade of matcha should I choose?

A: Matcha comes in various grades, ranging from high quality ceremonial to culinary. If you're looking for a traditional, smooth, and vibrant green tea experience, go for high quality ceremonial grade. For culinary purposes like baking and smoothies, a lower-grade matcha works well.

Q6: How should I store matcha powder to maintain its freshness?

A: To keep matcha fresh, store it in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. It's best to keep it in the fridge to preserve its vibrant colour and flavour.

Q7: Can I use matcha powder in recipes other than tea?

A: Absolutely! Matcha powder adds a delightful flavour and green hue to various recipes. You can use it in smoothies, desserts, lattes, and even savoury dishes like matcha-infused noodles.

Q8: Is matcha safe for children and pregnant women?

A: Generally, matcha is safe for consumption in moderate amounts. However, if you have any specific health concerns, it's always best to consult a healthcare professional before adding it to your diet.

Q9: Is matcha powder suitable for people with caffeine sensitivity?

A: Matcha contains caffeine, but in lower amounts compared to coffee. It is also released more steadily over time. If you have caffeine sensitivity, you may want to start with a small amount to see how your body reacts.

Q10: How can I tell if a matcha powder is of high quality?

A: High-quality matcha should have a vibrant green colour, a smooth texture, and a fresh, grassy aroma. It should also come from reputable sources and is often labelled "ceremonial". For the best taste and experience, look for high quality and organic ceremonial grades. We go one step further here and ensure our matcha is certified by Japanese and European organic authorities.

Note: Always consult a healthcare professional or nutritionist for personalised advice regarding dietary choices and health concerns.
